Third PV resident files for council vacancy
PRESCOTT VALLEY - Anthony Morrison turned in paperwork Thursday to apply for the Town Council seat vacated by Henry Schmitt, and became the third applicant to do so, Town Clerk Diane Russell said.
Morrison, a relatively new resident, joins former councilman Harold Wise, who applied Monday; and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Michael Whiting, who applied Tuesday. Jennifer Roel, chief executive officer of Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, and Teeni Moreno, a contract U.S. postal worker who ran unsuccessfully for the council in 2011, also have picked up applications at Russell's office.
Prospective applicants have until 5:30 p.m. Monday to apply to replace Schmitt, who resigned Jan. 23, effective immediately, citing health problems. Russell's office is located on the second floor of the Civic Center, 7501 E. Civic Circle.
The applicants will have opportunities to present themselves during the work/study meeting of the council next Thursday. The council plans to pick Schmitt's successor at the March 8 meeting.
Whoever is selected will serve until June 2013 but will be eligible to run in the council election in March 2013, Russell said.
