Local health clinic calling on community for volunteers

The West Yavapai Guidance Clinic (WYGC), a nonprofit agency that provides behavioral health and addiction services to adults, children and families in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley, is seeking two volunteers to serve on the Clinic's Foundation Board of Directors, to replace directors who have recently left the board.

In 2011, more than 7,200 individuals received services from WYGC, which include outpatient counseling for both adults and more than 1,200 children, support for those with serious mental illnesses, short-term psychiatric hospitalization, and both residential and outpatient chemical dependency treatment programs.

The goals of the Foundation Board are to increase community awareness of the importance of the WYGC services to local residents and their families, as well as to raise money to support clinic services that are not covered by other means. These include a senior support system to help the elderly stay connected to others, short-term counseling to families experiencing acute stresses, and case management for those who are seriously mentally ill.

Members of the clinic's Foundation Board of Directors are expected to attend monthly meetings to discuss community outreach and ways to help raise funds, as well as to participate in at least one sub-committee of the Foundation Board.

Those interested in applying for Foundation Board membership should contact Laura Norman at 445-5211, ext. 2703 or l.Norman@wygc.org.
