Letter: Too many lights can spoil holiday cheer

EDITOR:

A few comments on this past holiday's lighting of the courthouse plaza - carnival-like, psychedelic, excessive, gaudy, etc.

I always thought that when it comes to decorating, less is more. Hanging strands of lights in all different colors (fuchsia!) on almost every tree in the park seemed like overkill to me.

It took away from the simple elegance of the lighting of the gazebo and fountain, and the soft amber lights that crown the top of the courthouse building.

And whatever happened to those adorable lighted displays of sleighs, reindeers and Santas that used to adorn the grounds around the park? And the ice-skating rink in front of the courthouse steps some years ago? Now those were charmers!

Let's hope the decorating committee will consider these comments in the best of faith when planning next year's lighting. Keep it simple and in the spirit of what that holiday truly means.
