Optimist Club sponsors essay contest for students
The Optimist Club of Yavapai County encourages local students to write an essay on the topic "How Can I Help My Friends Realize Their Value" as part of the Optimist International Essay Contest for 2013.
The essay must be from 700-800 words and the deadline is Feb. 28, 2013.
The top three area winners will receive local club awards and the winning essay will be sent to the Arizona district level where the top winner will receive a $2,500 college scholarship.
The Optimist Club of Yavapai County became active in the community this year, and recently conducted its first fundraiser, a haircut-a-thon, raising $500 for Turning Point, Yavapai County's youth crisis center and shelter.
Carrying the motto "Bringing Out the Best in Kids," Optimists International conducts positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.
