Wednesday, Dec. 19

The Mayer Fire Board will meet in regular session at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the main station on Highway 69 across from Bensch Ranch.

Thursday, Dec. 20

Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will have their monthly free group trip to Fry's, Walmart and Trader  Joe's on Thursday, Dec. 20.  For reservations call 632-7511.  Call as soon as possible as the van fills up quickly.  The van will pick up and return to your home. 

Friday, Dec. 21

Library Movie Day at the Cordes Lakes Public Library. Come at 3 p.m. to see The Polar Express and enjoy Christmas cookies while watching the movie.

Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will have their annual Christmas Dinner on Friday, Dec. 21.  The menu will be turkey and all the trimmings ending with homemade gingerbread and whipped cream.  Cost is $5.  There will be door prizes and also cookie trays for sale to take to your own Christmas celebration.  For those last minute gifts, we have gift cards for a dinner, Monday through Friday, at Meals on Wheels for anyone to hand out to a friend or acquaintance for a $5 donation.  Staff will be able to personalize the gift card with your name that day, or call 928-632-7511 now for orders. 

Monday, Dec. 24

Mayer Community Church will be holding a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24. Please join us as we celebrate Jesus' birth. The church is located at 10001 Fifth Street. Phone 928-632-9533.


Mayer Elders Club Holiday Bake-a-thon. We are taking orders for favorite homemade baked goods featured at our bake sales. Leave the Christmas Day baking to us! Orders placed for baked goods will be ready for pickup at the MAAC on Dec. 24. For information call Brenda, 928-632-4901.

Mayer Elders Club General Meeting scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 27 at the MAAC aka Mayer Senior Center has been cancelled.

Mayer Elders Club Nitty Gritty Meetings are now on the 1st Thursday of each month, at 12:30 p.m. The first meeting will be on Jan. 3, 2013. The Nitty Gritty Committee would like to invite the MEC board members and Mayer Area Meals on Wheels director and fundraiser committee to come. We would like to have this as a "Brainstorming" meeting, for positive improvements and changes for the 2013 year. MEC members are welcome to attend.

Cedar Canyon Poker Run, Saturday, Dec. 29. Mayer Area Activity Center (aka Mayer Senior Center) 10051 Miami Street, behind the fire station. Sign ins 10:30 a.m. to noon. Return to MAAC no later than 4 p.m. Jeeps, side-by-sides and quads ONLY, $20 per hand. Homemade chili, cornbread, beverage and dessert served 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ($4). A New Year's Eve Dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 29 at the Mayer Recreation Center, 10001 S. Wicks Ave. in Mayer. Come dance in the Newa Year with the Happy Days Band. B.Y.O.B. and snacks. Adults only please. Admission is $10 per person. For more information call 928-632-9236.

Exercise Class for men and women meets Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday - Walk Group at 7:30 a.m. at Mayer Community Church. Call Joyce Nelson at 928-632-9352.

Mayer Area Meals on Wheels has a cribbage class that plays on Wednesday afternoons starting at 12:45.  It's okay if you haven't played in a while as the group will help teach or refresh your memory.  A beading class takes place every Wednesday afternoon. All instruction is free.  Kits are available at a minimal charge.  A tole painting class takes place each Thursday. Instruction is free and costs are very minimal. Painting starts at 10 a.m. and usually lasts until 2:30 p.m. 

Cordes Lakes

New Years Eve Gala will begin at 8 p.m., Dec. 31 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Dance to the music of Jim Porter and the Wells Fargo Band. Champagne toast at midnight along with biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. All of this for $20 per couple or $10 single. BYOB, you must be 21 to enter.

Cordes Lakes Dog Club is no longer holding meetings but the dog park is open at Henry Cordes Park.

There are three food programs in Cordes Lakes. The 60 plus program (age and income restricted) it is on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the 4th Thursday. Please bring your plastic bags or boxes to carry your produce. Please do not bring your dogs or other pets as they are not allowed in the food area. Exercise Class starts 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are free. Chris Shackelford is leading the exercise classes. TOPS starts at 9:15 a.m. for weigh-in and 9:30 for meeting on Fridays, following the exercise class.

 Ballroom and line dancing lessons will take place at 7 p.m. every Monday night at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. These are free classes and open to all ages. Don't worry about a partner. First dance will be the two-step.

A weekly Jam Session day takes place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Bill Teahon's house, 20273 East Quail Run. Bring your instrument and join the fun. For information, call Bill at 772-6044.

Big Bug Gem & Mineral Club meets the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Call Art Frame 928-713-5492 for information.

Al-Anon open meetings are Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Call Len, 632-9064.

Other Areas

Yavapai County Blue Star Mothers is having their monthly meetings, 6 p.m. on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Quailwood Community Clubhouse, 12725 E Bradshaw Mountain Road, Dewey. Blue Star Mothers is a group, supporting our troops, helping veterans and the community to Honor and Remember the Gold Star community.

First Southern Baptist Church on Pinto in Cordes Lakes hosts a youth group, grades 7 to 12, every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Youth Director Jen Fellars provides games, fun, worship and purpose. Call 623-556-6018 for information.

Love Ministry is at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m the third and fourth weekends of the month. Contact Carol Peck at 928-899-5050.
