Tuesday, Dec. 11
Spring Valley Property Owners Association General Meeting, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. Norm Smith and his barbershop quartet, The High Mountain Chordsmen, will present an entertaining Christmas program. Come early at 6 p.m. and enjoy the potluck supper. Everyone welcome.
The Arizona Highway 69 Chamber will meet for a Mixer at the 50's Backseat Diner at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. Everyone is invited.
Thursday, Dec. 13
An election for Cordes Lakes Community Association Board members will take place on Dec. 13. Voting is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. There is no charge to join the Community Association, but you must be a registered member to vote. Running for president are Ron Wells and Vic Chamberlin, vice president is Linda Giguere, secretary is Annie Wales with Colleen Donaldson running for treasurer. There are five Board seats available with Judy Slankard, Karen Gusenius, Flo Lottes, Mary Seppala, Steve Chadwell, Joan Rogers, Jean Chester and Dewey Fellars running.
Friday, Dec. 14
Annual Children's Christmas Party at the Cordes Lakes Library, 3 p.m. Enjoy games, prizes, cookies, and a visit with Jolly Old St. Nick.
Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will be entertained at lunch time by the Ability School Choir. Please come and listen and enjoy BBQ chicken. Salad bar starts at 11:30 with the main course at 11:45 a.m.
Saturday, Dec. 15
Cookies with Santa and the Electric Lights Parade is Saturday. The parade starts at 6 p.m. at Henry Cordes Park and goes across Stagecoach, then South on Cordes Lakes Drive to the Community Center. Cookies with Santa starts as soon as the parade arrives. Crafts and cookies will be available.
Bring your camera to get a picture of your child with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Sunday, Dec. 16
Hearty Soup Buffet and Christmas Cookies, noon to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at the MAAC (aka Mayer Senior Center) 10051 Miami St., Mayer (behind the fire station). Delicious homemade soups, with salad, beverages and a festive selection of homemade cookies. This is a change due to scheduling conflicts. Everyone welcome! Website: MayerEldersClubAZ.org.
The Arizona Highway 69 Chamber Tree Lighting will take place at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Chamber Office, 12791 E. Central in Mayer. Raffle tickets will be sold to win the tree ($1 each or 6 for $5). Santa will arrive by fire truck, and baked goodies will be available for sale.
Festival of Lights at the Mayer Community Bible Church, 10001 S. 5th Street. Musical celebration begins at 4 p.m.
Mayer Elders Club raffles include a Christmas Cash Raffle with a percentage of tickets sales to the winners, and a Harvest Hosts Raffle, which includes two 1-year memberships in Harvest Hosts Membership Camping Club entitling members with self-contained RVs to park overnight at a vast network of farms, wineries and agri-businesses. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6/$5. Drawings will take place at the Elders Club Christmas Soup and Cookies Buffet. Mayer Elders Club Holiday Bake-a-thon. We are taking orders for favorite homemade baked goods featured at our bake sales. Leave the Christmas Day baking to us! Orders placed for baked goods will be ready for pickup at the MAAC on December 24th. For information call Brenda, 928-632-4901.
Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will have their monthly free group trip to Fry's, Walmart and Trader Joe's on Thursday, Dec. 20. For reservations call 632-7511. Call as soon as possible as the van fills up quickly. The van will pick up and return to your home.
The Mayer Fire Board will meet in regular session at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the main station on Highway 69 across from Bensch Ranch.
A traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will take place at 5 p.m., Dec. 24 at the Community Bible Church in Mayer, 10001 S. 5th Street. Everyone is welcome.
Mayer Elders Club General Meeting, 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27 at the MAAC aka Mayer Senior Center. Everyone welcome.
Cedar Canyon Poker Run, Saturday, Dec. 29. Mayer Area Activity Center (aka Mayer Senior Center) 10051 Miami Street, behind the fire station. Sign ins 10:30 a.m. to noon. Return to MAAC no later than 4 p.m. Jeeps, side-by-sides and quads ONLY, $20 per hand. Homemade chili, cornbread, beverage and dessert served 10:30 am-12:30 pm ($4). Exercise Class for men and women meets Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday - Walk Group at 7:30 a.m. at Mayer Community Church. Call Joyce Nelson at 928-632-9352.
Mayer Area Meals on Wheels has a cribbage class that plays on Wednesday afternoons starting at 12:45. It's okay if you haven't played in a while as the group will help teach or refresh your memory. A beading class takes place every Wednesday afternoon. All instruction is free. Kits are available at a minimal charge. A tole painting class takes place each Thursday. Instruction is free and costs are very minimal. Painting starts at 10 a.m. and usually lasts until 2:30 p.m.
December 21 is Library Movie Day at the Cordes Lakes Public Library. Come at 3 p.m. to see The Polar Express and enjoy Christmas cookies while watching the movie.
New Years Eve Gala will begin at 8 p.m., Dec. 31 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Dance to the music of Jim Porter and the Wells Fargo Band. Champagne toast at midnight along with biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. All of this for $20 per couple or $10 single. BYOB, you must be 21 to enter.
There are three food programs in Cordes Lakes. The 60 plus program (age and income restricted) it is on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the 4th Thursday. Please bring your plastic bags or boxes to carry your produce. Please do not bring your dogs or other pets as they are not allowed in the food area. Exercise Class starts 8 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are free. Chris Shackelford is leading the exercise classes. TOPS starts at 9:15 a.m. for weigh-in and 9:30 for meeting on Fridays, following the exercise class.
Ballroom and line dancing lessons will take place at 7 p.m. every Monday night at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. These are free classes and open to all ages. Don't worry about a partner. First dance will be the two-step.
A weekly Jam Session day takes place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Bill Teahon's house, 20273 East Quail Run. Bring your instrument and join the fun. For information, call Bill at 772-6044.
Big Bug Gem & Mineral Club meets the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. Call Art Frame 928-713-5492 for information.

Yavapai County Blue Star Mothers is having their monthly meetings, 6 p.m. on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Quailwood Community Clubhouse, 12725 E Bradshaw Mountain Road, Dewey. Blue Star Mothers is a group, supporting our troops, helping veterans and the community to Honor and Remember the Gold Star community.
First Southern Baptist Church on Pinto in Cordes Lakes hosts a youth group, grades 7 to 12, every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Youth Director Jen Fellars provides games, fun, worship and purpose. Call 623-556-6018 for information.
