YC kicks off school year with live music, interactive 'Hunger Games' showing
The public is invited to help Yavapai College kick off its fall semester with Yavapalooza, an evening of entertainment that begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug 24, that includes live music, specialty acts, and interactive viewing of the blockbuster movie "Hunger Games."
Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, 1100 E. Sheldon St. in Prescott, and admission for the entire evening is $5, which includes a raffle ticket for some great prizes, said Mike Lange, spokesman for Yavapai College. Food will be available for purchase at the theater concession stand.
Live music will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Sundressed, Big Man's Dead Body, Doc Garvey's Remedy and Spafford. There will be a friendly "people's choice" competition among the bands, Lange said.
Specialty acts scheduled include The Sand Fleas ukulele band, "Prescott Valley's Got Talent" winner Coco, the hip-hop group Royal Force and national tae kwon do champion Thekla Hutyrova.
"The "Hunger Games" showing will begin at 9 p.m., and the audience will be able to use the theater's new V-Chat tweeting technology to interact with the movie by using their smart phones to post comments about the movie on the theater's state-of-the art big screen during the showing, Lange said.
Tickets are available at the YCPAC Box Office, Mondays-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and online at www.ycpac.com. Guests who purchase their tickets online receive a 10 percent off coupon for the YCPAC food concession stand.
Yavapalooza is presented by the Yavapai College Honors Program students.
