Prescott Unified School District is planning an open house for prospective volunteers from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Prescott United Methodist Church.
Volunteers are needed in district schools to help during this period of budget shortfalls, said LinMarie DiCianni, AmeriCorps member and volunteer coordinator for PUSD.
"Our purpose is to engage community members interested in serving our schools in a whole array of capacities," DiCianni said. "We'd like people to consider what they will do today to help students succeed."
Prospective volunteers can meet school staff at the church's Esther Hall at 505 W. Gurley Street in Prescott. They will learn what volunteers do and fill out interest forms to let the district know how they would like to help during the current academic year, DiCianni said.
Visitors will enjoy Mexican cuisine, catered by Macayo's. Yavapai County Sheriff's Office personnel will be on hand to process the fingerprints required of all volunteers.
