Arizona Women's Education and Employment Inc. to present volunteerism award to Elisabeth Ruffner
Prescott matriarch Elisabeth Ruffner will receive the 2012 Barbara Jean Polk Spirit of Volunteerism Award at the third annual AWEE Baubles Bags & Bling Luncheon Sept. 13 at the Prescott Resort.
The award honors individuals who have exhibited the highest level of volunteerism and support, and is named for the first recipient of the award. AWEE is a Prescott-based nonprofit entity that stands for Arizona Women's Education and Employment Inc., and provides training in employment skills, resume writing and computers to both men and women.
Ruffner has been a businesswoman, writer, public speaker and historian for more than 60 years in Prescott. She is credited with being involved in founding a number of community endeavors, including the Prescott Community Hospital Association, the Friends of the Prescott Public Library, the Prescott Area Arts Council and the Elks Opera House Foundation.
She will be at the annual fundraiser, which supports AWEE programs. The fundraiser will feature a silent auction and door prizes with new and vintage purses and bags filled with merchandise and certificates from donors and the business community.
The luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Prescott Resort, Heather Heights at Highway 69.
