Obituary: Ellwood Lee Erickson
Ellwood Lee "Eric" Erickson of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away while surrounded by his family on Aug. 4, 2012. He was 73 years old. "Eric" was born on Feb. 25, 1939, in Deer River, Minn.
He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1957, and joined the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the Air Force, he returned home where he met and married Sharon Kaye Ford of Thief River Falls, Minn. "Eric" joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Republic of Vietnam (where he received the Navy Unit Commendation), Palau, Puerto Rico, Diego Garcia, Republic of the Philippines, and Port Hueneme, Calif. He retired from the Navy as a United States Navy Chief in 1984, and work for the Department of Defense until retiring and moving himself and his wife Sharon to Prescott Valley where they enjoyed camping, horseback riding, shooting and softball for the past seven years.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; brother, Raymond; sister, Catherine; son, Kevin (wife Brenda); granddaughters, Stephanie and Heather; and grandson Kyle; daughter, Lisa (husband Guy Gates); grandson Joshua; and granddaughter Elizabeth.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the Prescott Veteran's Hospital Chapel.
