GOLF TIPS by Mack McCarley: Looking to add distance to your shots? Use your body
Here's a common question from a golfer, "How do I get more distance?"
Most people try to get more distance by "hitting" at the ball with their hands and arms. Also, golfers tend to swing harder and faster for more distance.
The secret to finding more power is to use your body. That means that the source of a strong swing are the large muscles....the shoulders, hips and the legs. You should try to develop a swing that has a big turning motion where the arms, hands and the club "follow" the motion of the body.
Put a club behind your neck (holding it at each end) and practice turning the shoulders. Stretch as much as you can to develop a bigger shoulder turn in your swing. This is also a good way to "warm up" prior to playing a round. Stretch out the shoulders, hips and legs so that you can make that big turn and then.... Let it rip!
