Teens interested in aviation, aerospace and global security are eligible for six-day summer programs that run from June 3 through August 3 at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Prescott campus.
All of the residential camps include supervised on-campus housing, meals, classroom instruction, books, materials, and field trips. Applications are due a month before each camp's start date.
Aerospace Engineering: This program for students ages 15-18 lays out the fundamental concepts of aerospace engineering and related fields as they apply to aircraft and spacecraft. Participants will learn the science of flight, how materials stress, strain and break, as well as the principles of aerospace design. The program runs June 24-29 and includes classes and labs. Tuition is $1,050.
Computer/Electrical Engineering: Students will specify, design, build and fly a high-altitude balloon to collect data. The course is open to high school students ages 16-18 with a strong background in math and science. The program runs June 24-29. Tuition is $1,050.
Global Security and Intelligence "Spy" Camp: Participants will take on the role of spy-catcher while developing surveillance skills and exploring the practice of cryptology and the art of illusion. Flight Exploration: In this introductory course on flying and flight training, students practice flight maneuvers and get acquainted with how an airplane responds to cockpit commands. Participants also learn how to comply with aviation regulations and how to analyze weather conditions. The course includes field trips, flight and ground lab instruction and a logbook to record flight hours. Five sessions are offered for students ages 14-18: June 3-8, June 10-16, July 8-13, July 22-27 and July 29 to Aug. 3. The tuition for each session is $1,950.
