Community can donate to packages for the Troops
Goodies-4-Grunts announces the start of their Christmas drive for the Troops.
Project Director Murrell Worth explains that this has become a community event. Everyone is asked to fill a one gallon zip lock bags with toiletries or food items.
Please include a short note to the person that receives your gift and include your name and address, or email address so that they can reply to you.
Murrell says this is not a political statement on the wars, but rather a show of support for these men and women serving our country.
The bags then are boxed and shipped to a person who has agreed to distribute them to the men and women in their command. Because of the time limitations for shipping parcel post, these must be shipped by early November to meet the cut-off date for Christmas delivery.
In prior years, these have been sent to combat units serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Philippines.
Anyone wishing to assist with postage expenses may do so by donating to Goodies-4-Grunts. Please include a business card if possible, so that they recipients can know that it was your donation that brought Santa to them. Mailing costs in 2011 are estimated to be about $70 per box (65 pound average).
