POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony Monday

Local youth will present a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Recognition Day Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. today, Sept. 19, at the Prescott Resort.

Five POWs will attend the ceremony sponsored by the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System as will Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall, Prescott Valley Mayor Harvey Skoog and other dignitaries.

"I ask that you keep in your thoughts and prayers the prisoners of war (POW), those who are missing in action (MIA), and the families that have been left behind," Gov. Jan Brewer said.

"A promise is given for those who wear the uniform of the United States that no one will be forgotten or left behind.

"National POW/MIA Recognition Day is about keeping that promise through this special day of remembrance for the safe return of American Prisoners of War and those still missing in action."
