Obituary: G. (Geneva) Frances Buck

Frances Buck, 84, of Chino Valley, Ariz., passed away peacefully Sept. 7, 2011. Born Sept. 19, 1926, in Doddridge Co., W.Va., daughter of the late Jesse and Blanche Cottrill, she was the youngest of four children.

Frances moved with her family to Michigan at the age of 7. She graduated from Hopkins High School in 1944, where she participated in Glee Club, basketball and cheerleading. She attended Mercy College in Detroit under the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps program and graduated with her diploma in 1947. She did her internship at Leila Post Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich.

In 1948, she married Basil B. Buck in Hopkins, Mich., and was blessed with two daughters, Rebecca and Amy. She lived and worked most of her life in Allegan Co. She was a member of the Red Cross and ANA.

She retired from Allegan General Hospital in 1989 and moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., where she joined the Beta Sigma Phi International, and did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, the Heritage Hill Association and Blodgett Hospital.

She moved to Arizona in 2002 to live with her daughter and enjoyed the outdoors, music, shopping, reading and volunteering at the Chino Valley Library.

Frances is survived by her daughters Rebecca Buck-Wetzel (Jerry) and Amy Buck-Brown (Philip), all of Chino Valley. In addition, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and extended family members. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kirt and Ken, and sister Judy.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Frances' life on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at her daughters' home, 2365 W. Bobwhite Lane in Chino Valley, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Family suggests donations in Frances' memory to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 7669, Atlanta, GA 30357, or the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.

The family would like to thank the Chino Valley Fire Department, LifeLine Ambulance, YRMC, Mtn. Valley Rehab, Las Fuentes and Granite Mtn. Hospice for providing excellent care.
