PRESCOTT - A new plan for the controversial bench in Granite Creek Park apparently is in the works.

On Wednesday, Parks and Recreation Director Debbie Horton reported that she had met that morning with Kristin Anthony, the artist who created the circular bench, and Ryan Gates, a licensed landscaper who helped with the initial structural design.

"Kristin would like to resubmit a design for the bench on Friday at 10 a.m. that features an image-free look and instead features colored tiles taken from the present bench," Horton said in a written recap of the meeting.

The bench Anthony created as a project for her studies at Prescott College has been the source of controversy because of its intricate mosaic design. In late September, the city shut down Anthony's work on the bench, citing concerns about functionality and safety.

That led to several rallies of support for the bench.
