Prescott Center for the Arts is accepting submissions of original plays for its second Young Playwrights Festival. All students, grades K-12, in Yavapai County and Sedona, (regardless of what kind of school they attend) are eligible to submit an original play for consideration for inclusion in the festival. Chosen plays are produced and authors are eligible for trophies, cash and gift-card prizes. An independent panel will select a grand prize winner, who will receive a trophy and a cash prize. All authors receive a certificate of participation.
Plays are limited to 12 pages. Themes and content are open but must be school and language appropriate. Authors are encouraged to create a play with a small amount of characters and locales and to avoid multiple scenes.
Full details and guidelines are available on the PCA website, pca-az.net. To access the information, hover your cursor on the "Education" header and then click "Young Playwrights Festival" from the navigation drop-down menu. Authors will also find a link allowing them to upload and submit their play. Each author may submit only one play.
Included on the website is an email address where authors can submit questions or seek advice. Authors can also call 928-541-0209 for assistance.
Deadline for submissions is Nov. 4. The festival will be held on Feb. 19, 2012, at Franklin Phonetic School.
