Obituary: Ray L. (Bud) Johnson

Ray L. (Bud) Johnson went into the presence of his Lord on Aug. 25, 2011. He was born in Olympia, Wash., March 1, 1922, the first and only son of Ray W. and Esther Johnson.

He grew up in Tumwater, Wash., and entered the U.S. Army in 1940 after graduating from high school. After serving in Alaska and Europe for the entire World War II, he lived in Washington and California before moving to Prescott Valley, Ariz., with his wife Marie in 1994.

Known as Mr. Enthusiasm, he traveled the U.S. and Canada presenting self-improvement seminars during his middle years, authoring several manuals. He leaves behind a legacy of volunteerism as a committed member of the Lions Club and devoted to CASA. where he could be found daily helping with the food bank, telling a joke, giving the invocation, and patriotically saluting the flag he loved. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Neighbor to Neighbor, and Habitat for Humanity, being a friend to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth, and his wife Marie. He is survived by his sister Joyce and husband Dick Asimus; niece Diane Ramos; nephews David Asimus, Dan Asimus and Darin Asimus; and several cousins.

Services will be at Bethel Baptist Church Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. Interment will be at the National Cemetery Riverside, Calif. In lieu of flowers, gifts to Bethel Baptist Church will be greatly appreciated.
