Prospective teachers of handicapped may apply for scholarship

The Prescott Sunrise Lions Club has approved a $1,500 scholarship to be administered by the Education Scholarship Endowment of Yavapai County (ESEYC). The scholarship may be given to a prospective teacher from Yavapai County who qualifies to apply by meeting at least one of the following criteria:

• Has a visual or auditory impairment or physical handicap;

• Will be teaching students who have visual or auditory impairments or physical handicaps; or

• Meets other criteria as defined by the ESEYC scholarship selection committee.

Bob Williams, an ESEYC board member, said the Prescott Sunrise Lions Club Board of Directors approved the annual scholarship after he presented a program in May, which described how the ESEYC supports aspiring teachers in their collegiate teacher training programs.

Applicants should be admitted to and enrolled in teacher training programs at accredited colleges or universities.

Application forms for the scholarship will be prepared and distributed later this fall. Those forms will be distributed countywide and will be available online through the ESEYC website www.education-scholarships-yavapai.org.
