Letter: Park bench designer emerges on winning side
Several days ago, I read the letter written to the Courier by the park bench artist, Kristin Anthony. It is difficult to put into words how I felt after reading it.
First, if the park bench controversy were a struggle between artistic freedom and local politicians, then she has won. Her grace and insight have far exceeded the small minds of the city officials who dismantled the bench. The articulate article she wrote to the newspaper should be cast in bronze and attached to the tree.
Second, I feel Ms. Anthony stands as a glowing beacon of what Prescott College is all about. If this college is producing students with her thoughtful and forgiving mind, then this little college is an educational jewel for its goal to create a pensive and far-seeking generation of students. Prescott College can and should be proud of Kristin Anthony and what she has learned at this college.
Ms. Anthony touched my heart. She has survived and conquered the disappointment and ugliness of small-thinking city leaders. Like a Phoenix, she has risen from the ashes.
