NACOG earns governor's award
The Northern Arizona Council of Governments garnered a 2011 Governor's Excellence in Economic Development Award for launching the Business Assistance Center.
NACOG obtained funding from the Governor's Council on Workforce Policy, and joined with Yavapai College and Systems Technology Staffing to support new small businesses in the county and retain them, a news release stated.
NACOG officials designed the center to create home-based businesses and expand business opportunities with technical help, facilities and training.
In the first year the center created more than 250 jobs with 420 businesses and provided services to more than 3,900 clients. The center expanded from Prescott into the Verde Valley by forming a partnership with the City of Cottonwood.
The center also enabled NACOG to earn the 2011 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations.
