Young musicians excel at competition

First place winners of the 2011 Young Musicians Competition sponsored by the Yavapai Symphony Guild played a free concert Nov. 8 at the Prescott Adult Center, and collected their awards.

From left are Marisa Eastman, Strings Senior Division; Gabriel Riegner, Strings Junior Division; Katelyn Charlton, Brass/Woodwinds Senior Division; Timothy deLaveaga, Piano Senior Division; Kristine Ramirez, Brass/Woodwinds Junior Division; Melody Startzell, Voice Senior Division; Daniel Carlisi, Piano Junior Division; and Kellan Martin, Voice Junior Division.

This year, 44 students competed and judges awarded $9,600 in prize money, with first place winners in the Senior Division earning $600 and in the Junior Division $500.

On Friday, Nov. 18, at the Music Cafe in downtown Prescott, the Junior winners will perform at 6:30 p.m. and the Senior winners at 8:30 p.m.
