Obituary: Bette Mickles
Bette Mickles, 87, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. Bette was the beloved mother of Kirk Mickles of Prescott and Pam Field of Prescott Valley. Beloved grandmother to Keith Bellamy of Chandler, Ariz., Shannon Robillard of Prescott Valley and Damon Fernandez of Hauser Lake, Idaho. Great-grandmother to Braiden Bellamy of Huntington Beach, Calif., Tyler Robillard of Prescott Valley, Jaden Bellamy of St. George, Utah, and Niko Fernanadez of Hauser Lake, Idaho.
Mrs. Mickles was born to Harry and Florence Brown on Feb. 12, 1924, in Reading, Pa. She anxiously awaited her 20th birthday to enlist in the United States Navy as a "Wave" in WWII and was stationed at Annapolis, Md., Naval Hospital, where she served her military duty till the end of the war. She used her G.I. bill benefits to enter Bessi V. Hicks Dramatic School in Philadelphia, Pa., where she met her husband and father to her two children, Tom Mickles.
The family then moved to California where she became a medical secretary until she retired in 1989. She was a faithful woman and an active member and Deacon in her church, St. John's Presbyterian Church, in West Los Angeles, where she lived and raised her children. In 2007, she moved to Prescott to be closer to family.
Bette was a happy, jovial person who was always up for a practical joke. She was a loving and devoted mother whose family meant everything to her, and she was deeply loved by her children and grandchildren. A favorite pastime was spending time with her family playing Parcheesi, cheering on the Dodgers or watching a favorite classic movie. Most of all she loved life, loved people and being generous to all. She will be remembered by her glowing smile and loving ways, and will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Bette's life will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home on the corner of Cortez and Carleton streets.
