PRESCOTT - The southbound lane of North Highway 89 in the Granite Dells was shut down for nearly two hours late Saturday morning after a two-vehicle accident caused a Jeep to flip off the roadway, a Prescott police spokesman said later in the day.
Sgt. Kevin Perlak said the drivers and only occupants of both vehicles suffered minor injuries. They were taken via ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, where
they were later treated and released.
The accident happened at about 10:13 a.m. south of the Phippen Museum, 4701 N. Highway 89, when the male driver of the Jeep hit a woman's SUV as it was making a turn off the highway, Perlak said.
Perlak added that the Jeep rolled approximately four times, but that the driver was wearing his seatbelt, which likely saved his life. The male driver suffered only minor abrasions, while the woman apparently sustained a back injury.
Prescott police shut down the southbound lane on 89 from about 10:15 to shortly before noon, when it reopened to traffic.
