Obituary: Dottie R. Viehweg

On May 14, 2011, Dottie Viehweg passed peacefully to eternity after her 24-year battle with breast cancer. She remains in our hearts as an inspiration to her family, her friends and the many people she touched throughout her colorful life.

Dottie was born in Collinsville, Okla., on April 19, 1936, and grew up across the Midwest, graduating high school in Rapid City, S.D. She eventually completed her education at Arizona State University after moving to Scottsdale with her family. Dottie loved to sing, and was active in many church choirs and as a soloist. She was a member of the ASU Choral Union and looked forward to performing Handel's Messiah each year. She was a member of various chapters of the international cultural and service sorority Beta Sigma Phi from 1963 until her passing, in cities from Rapid City to Scottsdale, Phoenix and Prescott. During her service years, Dottie held several chapter offices including serving as chapter president on several occasions and as city council president, and she received numerous awards including Woman of the Year, and the very high honor of Master Degree and the International PACE service award. Dottie spent her professional life in the legal field serving on the board of the Paralegal Institute, and managing a Phoenix law firm. She and her husband Harold semi-retired to Prescott where they ran the historic Queen Anne Victorian Bed and Breakfast, The Marks House, for nearly 15 years. She became active on the Yavapai Symphony Association Board, enjoyed a woman's Bible study group from the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prescott, and enjoyed community service as a member of The Monday Club. Dottie held an annual fundraiser for the Prescott Child Development Center, was on the board of the Prescott Area Visitors Bureau and the Prescott Lodging Association, and enjoyed activities as a member of the Red Hat Society. Dottie was a resident of Prescott Valley.

She is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as her loving husband, Harold. You are with us always, Dottie, as beloved wife, mother, loyal friend and passionate public servant, and the impact of your love and your life will never be forgotten.

The family wishes to thank the generous and gracious care given by Dr. Albert Guy Wendt, Phoenix and the Good Samaritan Society, Prescott.
