Granite Mountain Middle School student Alexa Scholl wins MATForce poster contest
Alexa Scholl, a 13-year-old student from Granite Mountain Middle School in Prescott, won first place in the annual MATForce youth poster contest. Alexa's winning poster conveys to youths and adults alike the powerful anti-drug message of "Love Yourself - Don't Drug Yourself," said Merilee Fowler, executive director of MATForce.
Alexa received her $300 cash award at the annual MATForce Mixer before an audience of 150 community members, and her poster will be featured on MATForce substance abuse awareness materials throughout 2011, said Jeanne Wellins, public relations and project coordinator for MATForce.
More than 500 students throughout Yavapai County participated in the contest, and MATForce commends each of these students for speaking out against substance abuse, Fowler said.
"The response to the contest by area youth was outstanding," Fowler said. "Each student created a poster showing the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. We wish to thank all the students, teachers and schools that participated. Each student helped spread a healthy living and drug-free message throughout our community."
Each winner in each age category received a $25 gift card.
