Yavapai College hosts evening of jazz Monday
The Yavapai College Performance Hall on the Prescott campus will rock with the sound of the college's two Big Bands - the Roughriders and Trailblazers - both directed the Roy Breiling, at 7 p.m. on May 9.
Breiling is head of instrumental studies at YC.
The Roughriders Big Band will open the concert and will perform six numbers, including Dave Brubeck's "It's Déjà vu (All Over Again)," Duke Ellington's "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", and "A Short History of Jazz," by Les Hooper.
After intermission, the Trailblazers Big Band will take the stage to perform several numbers including "Out of the Doghouse" by Erik Morales, "La Fiesta" by Chick Corea, "Short Stop" by Carl Strommen and "Pythodd Fellows" by Jon La Barbera.
Roughrider soloists include saxophonists Duane Ewing and Donald Grise, trombonist Zachary Tighe, and trumpet player Ed Cornett. From the Trailblazers, the soloists are saxophonists Max Lopez and Dave Russell, trombonist Ben Apple, trumpet players Derek Young and A.J. Siniaho, and pianist Matt Jackson.
