High quality singing earns 8 LTS students Honor Choir designation
Choir Director Darrell Rowader sent nine Liberty Traditional School students to the Northern Arizona Middle School Music Festival this past month, and judges selected eight to participate in the Northern Arizona Middle School Honor Choir in Kingman on May 13 and 14.
"They will rehearse Friday evening and all day Saturday," Rowader said. The LTS eighth-graders, and other selected performers from across northern Arizona, will perform Saturday at Kingman High School at 4:30 p.m.
During the audition, students sang a prepared solo and sight read a selection before the judges, who evaluated them on eight skills: tone quality (20 pts), intonation (10), rhythm (10), technique (10), interpretation (10), diction (10), stage presentation (10), and sight reading (20).
The selected students received the May 14 concert music ahead of time. The material contains pieces in four different languages, Rowader said. Students at some schools are often left to study the music on their own; however, his students are practicing the arrangements in preparation for the concert, he said. The eight students selected for the Honor Choir performance are Bryanna Allen, Megan Armstrong, Bailey Aylmer, Diana Gonzalez, Michela Hardin, Amanda Mikrut, Jordan Rivera, and Sabrina Wasem.
