Letter: Who asked for TJ's to come here?
Several weeks have past since, with much fanfare, Trader Joe's announced they were blessing this area with their presence.
I've read many letters in this section both pro and con. Having lived in this county a mere two years, I was amazed to learn the history of attracting "big box" retailers by throwing money at them. Now it appears this practice applies to grocers as well.
Several questions come to mind. Should not Fry's, Albertsons and Safeway not expect, no demand, exactly the same concessions the next time they want to open a new store in this community? Second question, who approached whom? Did TJ's come to Prescott with demands or did the City Council go to them with an offer in hand? Lastly, who is this store for?
I think we all know the answer. This is a rich person's store. It will be shopped by people who don't want the average area resident alongside.
Perhaps before future action, the people should be asked for their opinion. What a silly notion, the powers that be don't care.
