The Prescott Valley Police Department invites residents to get an inside look at law enforcement operations by attending a Spring 2011 Citizens Police Academy.

Participants will receive a complete overview of the various functions and services of the Prescott Valley Police Department, learn more about criminal investigations, evidence collection, narcotics and traffic law, as well as watch live demonstrations from the department's Special Weapons and Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.), K9 Unit, and Range Master, said Sgt. Brandon Bonney, spokesman for the Prescott Valley Police Department.

Classes take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings from April 12 through May 26.

Participants must be Prescott Valley residents, 18 years old or older, and legal U.S. residents. The deadline to apply is March 21. Class size is limited to 20 participants.

At the end of the academy, citizens will receive a certificate of participation from the program.
