Local Roundup: Top-flight girls softball tourney hits town

The 47-team Beat the Heat girls fast pitch softball tournament makes its annual trip to Prescott this weekend.

Prescott will be represented by the Prescott Lady Hawks in the 12-and-under, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions.

Prescott Valley's AZ Sparkle will play in the 18U bracket.

The teams will begin play today at Heritage and Pioneer Parks starting at 10 a.m. Games run through mid-to -late afternoon.

The championship games in each division will be Sunday.

The Prescott Lady Hawks' 12U team starts today at 3:15 p.m., at Heritage Park.

Its 14U team begins play at Pioneer Park at 5 p.m. Its 16U team opens the tourney, which will be played at Pioneer Park, at 1:30 p.m., then plays at 5 p.m.

Prescott's 18U team plays at 10 a.m. at Pioneer Park, while the AZ Sparkle plays at 11:45 a.m.

- In District 10 Little League tournament action, Prescott Valley's 9-10 age group baseball all-stars fell to Verde Valley 8-7 in Chino Valley on Friday.

Chino Valley was defeated by Wickenburg 7-5, while Camp Verde topped Williams 11-6.

In today's second-round games, Prescott Valley will face Chino Valley at 5 p.m.; Prescott will take on Camp Verde at 7:30 p.m., and Verde Valley plays Wickenburg, also at 7:30 p.m.

Bagdad's 11-12 girls softball all-star team beat Dewey-Humboldt 28-9 in a first-round matchup in Cottonwood.
