Chino Valley firefighters knock out small wildland fire Saturday in Paulden

Chino Valley Fire District firefighters spent about an hour extinguishing a quarter-acre wildland fire accidentally started by a Paulden homeowner who was burning dead tumbleweeds behind the residence Saturday morning.

CVFD Battalion Chief Garry Young said three engines, two patrols and a water tender responded to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. and quickly snuffed out the blaze in the 1600 block of Kings Court several miles northwest of Chino Valley.

Some minor property damage was reported, but the fire did not spread too far, thanks in part to favorable wind conditions at that particular location, Young added.
