The Hot Spot: Sweet Nasty
Yes, yes, yes....the rumors are true!!! Sweet Nasty is back with a vengeance! As Anthony V. Fusco (vox/guitar) assured me, the divorce papers have been taken off the table. The band is back together and playing different venues, mainly here in Prescott. Outstanding news for the cult-like following the band has developed over the past few years. And even better news for those of you who haven't had a chance to check out this outstanding Indie Band who was voted one of Arizona's best new bands in 2008.
For reasons only known to the magic 8-ball, but much to the dismay of their many fans, the band, who released their excellent CD "Life on Fire" in the fall of 2009, decided to call it quits in late 2010. But all's well that ends well, and the music Gods are smiling upon us once again. I highly recommend that you all come and see Sweet Nasty when they perform at Coyote Joe's on Aug. 12th at 8 p.m. This is definitely a treat not to be missed.
Sweet Nasty is certainly not your run-of-the mill rock band. Anthony came to music via classical piano. These days he is a master of all things strings, including slightly more obscure instruments like ukulele and mandolin. He fuses jazz with classical elements with amazing results, and as though all that weren't enough, he also sings! His partner in crime from the get-go is Seattle native Johnny Low (vox/guitar), who is also the main lyricist for the band. Watching Johnny on stage is amazing. He gets completely lost in his own world and in the process seems to bare his soul to the audience.
Rounding out this great band are Anton Teschner (sax/guitar), Mike Kreidel (drums), and Lorin McLain (bass). Anton is another fantastic, well-rounded musician, whose roots are firmly entrenched in Flamenco. His musical contributions are sexy, seductive and full of passion.
Mike and Lorin are well known to local music lovers as comprising two-thirds of another beloved local band, FiLaBusTa. Knowing full well that a lot of musicians start in one band only to leave another behind, I immediately needed someone to alleviate my fears, because as much as I truly love Sweet Nasty, FiLaBuStA definitely holds a special place in my affections. So after talking with Mike, I can now confidently assure everybody that neither one of the bands will be adversely affected by the double duties taken on by Mike and Lorin. Thanks again, music Gods. All is good in my world!
Collectively, the band members boast an impressive amount of talent, which they showcase with a vast array of musical genres. They are different, awesome, fun, and I'm definitely glad they're back to rock our socks off! Get their schedule at sweetnastyband.com or find (and like) them on Facebook!
Saturday will find me at Annie's Attic at 9:30...... Loudhouse, an awesome Phoenix based band, will be performing. The CheekTones will grace us with their presence on the Patio at Coyote Joe's starting at 8 p.m.... so I'll divide my time between upstairs and downstairs. Be there......or else!
