Council extends pool season a month
Lifeguards and people using the swimming classes at the Chino Valley Aquatic Center came to the Chino Valley Town Council meeting July 12 to show support for a proposed one-month extension of the pool's season, from Aug. 7-Sept. 5.
Parks and Recreation Coordinator Shannon Ganz presented the costs, benefits and pool patron requests to extend the pool (see schedule at right), and lifeguards added their reasons for wanting the pool open, to give them another month of employment.
The council unanimously voted to extend the season, which will end on Sept. 5 with a Dollar Swim all day.
Ganz said many pool patrons wanted to continue the AquaFit class, which is offered morning and evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as the Therapy and Parent-Tot Swim classes and the open swim. School children can swim after school in the afternoon Open Swims.
The weather is still plenty warm enough through August for activities at the outdoor pool.
Ganz said the pool never operates with a profit, but that with the month's estimated revenues of about $4,800, the Town would have to pay an extra estimated $4,200 to keep the pool open.
