Community News: Mariah Sky Franklin wins Voice of Democracy essay contest

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and ladies Auxiliary Department of Arizona awarded first place in the 2010-2011 Voice of Democracy essay contest, sponsored by Post 541, District 2, to Mariah Sky Franklin. Mariah received a plaque, a check for $2,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where her essay will compete in the national finals.

The winner of the national Voice of Democracy essay contest will receive a $30,000 scholarship paid to the recipient's American university, college or vocational school.

Mariah is a senior at Prescott High School and is the daughter of Steve and Jana Franklin of Prescott. She has been accepted to Baylor University and is applying to its honors college.
