Yavapai County sheriff's deputies arrested a man Saturday in Cordes Lakes on charges including threatening and intimidation after he allegedly made lewd gestures at another man's 10-year-old daughter and threatened the girl's father as he walked away.

A deputy booked Leonard Ray Combest, 61, of Cordes Lakes into the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde on charges including voyeurism, disorderly conduct, threatening/intimidation, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Combest remains in custody on a $4,000 bond, said Dwight D'Evelyn, spokesman for the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

At 12:15 p.m., deputies answered a call about a sex offense on Deer Valley Lane and spoke with a man who said he saw a neighbor, later identified as Combest, allegedly make sexual gestures toward his daughter. The man told deputies he and his daughter had been in their front yard when Combest walked by, said, "hi," then made lewd gestures at the girl while standing several feet away from her, D'Evelyn said. When the father confronted Combest about the gestures he made, Combest allegedly threatened him and walked away, according to YCSO.

While the father was on the phone with dispatchers, his wife told him she heard a noise in the bushes near their home and she and her daughter, who was sitting on the porch, saw Combest allegedly trying to conceal himself behind the bushes as he allegedly performed a lewd act, D'Evelyn said.

Combest left before deputies arrived, and the girl's parents watched him enter a nearby home in the 20900 block of Deer Valley Lane, according to reports. When deputies checked the area where Combest had been hiding, they found a makeshift blind and clearing, which allowed a concealed view of the girl's porch and front yard.

"The blind was set up on property owned by a relative of Combest," D'Evelyn said. "There is a concern that he might have done this before, and that's being looked into."

The parents had not noticed him doing this before, and there's no indication in the report that this happened before, D'Evelyn said.

Deputies spoke with Combest at the home he was seen entering on Deer Valley Lane and arrested him.

"When Combest spoke to deputies, the only comment that he made when the allegations were made was that he was dancing," D'Evelyn said.

Deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia belonging to Combest inside the home, D'Evelyn said.
