Preliminary results from an autopsy of the bodies of a man and woman found dead inside a Ford F-150 truck Friday about a half-mile from Crown King indicated they both died from close-range gunshot wounds to the head, said Dwight D'Evelyn, spokesman for the Yavpai County Sheriff's Office.

YCSO detectives say preliminary results of their investigation lead them to believe that Thomas Watson, 47, of Goodyear shot Tara Shermerhorn, 31, of Goodyear and then killed himself, D'Evelyn said.

Goodyear police Commander Ralph McLaughlin told The Associated Press the couple had broken up.

The search for Shermerhorn began Thursday evening when her family let police know she was missing.

"The preliminary investigation had no indication that she was forced into his truck, but there is concern that something happened along to the drive to Crown King," D'Evelyn said.

YCSO continues its joint investigation with detectives from Goodyear Police Department, D'Evelyn said.
