Howard Clement Schmidt

Howard Clement Schmidt of Prescott Valley, Ariz., former State Farm Insurance Companies agent and John Deere Implement business co-owner, died on Dec. 18, 2011. He was born in Sleepy Eye, Minn., Sept. 24, 1915, to Frederick William and Lena (Beckman) Schmidt. He was the eldest surviving brother of eight sons.

Howard married Bernice Alma (Schewe) in 1940, who passed away in 2004 while they lived in Cottonwood, Ariz.

He is preceded in death by five brothers and is survived by Paul Schmidt (Nydia) of Litchfield, Minn., and Orville Schmidt (Phyllis) of Northfield, Minn.; daughters Nancy Hinshaw (Bob) and Linda Buchanan; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Howard enjoyed fishing, photography, traveling, oil painting and drawing. He had a passion for baseball and basketball. He loved the Lord and little children, and died peacefully after reading his Bible on Sunday morning.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, conducted by Pastor Hein of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church at 3300 Navajo in Prescott Valley.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements.
