ADOT continues night work at Cordes interchange
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will continue night work (weather permitting) on the Cordes Junction traffic interchange at Interstate 17 and Highway 69 next week.
According to a news release from ADOT, the work will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday, and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
The work on I-17 will require a closure of one northbound and one southbound lane each evening, as crews complete the new detour crossover on southbound I-17. A minimum of one lane in each direction on I-17 and Highway 69 will remain open during work hours.
In addition to the I-17 construction, crews will be working on northbound and southbound Highway 69 on Sunday through Thursday, which will require a single lane closure nightly to ensure a safe work zone for construction personnel.
Flaggers will onsite on Tuesday and Thursday on northbound and southbound Highway 69 to allow crews to pave and re-stripe the roadway and relocate a temporary concrete barrier for the upcoming traffic switch onto the new detour routes.
As work continues to reconstruct the Cordes Junction traffic exchange, drivers will be required to follow new road alignments on Highway 69 and I-17.
ADOT is advising drivers to be aware of the 11-foot-wide lanes at the crossovers along southbound I-17 that will be in place starting Thursday night.
In addition, ADOT is advising drivers to comply with the reduced speed limit and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. The speed limit on I-17 will be 55 miles per hour until the crossover is removed, and the new bridge over I-17 is complete. The speed limit on Highway 69 is 45 miles per hour through the construction zone.
