Plans are under way in Prescott to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks on America.
The ceremony will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza, said Fr. Walt Crites, co-chair of the organizing committee.
In order to raise money for the commemorative event, the committee is planning a dinner dance beginning at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Pine Cone Inn in Prescott.
Tickets for the dinner dance are $50 each. The evening will include the meal, music, raffles for prizes and a silent auction.
After expenses of the plaza event, proceeds will go to the memorial in New York City to help with its upkeep.
Those who would like to attend the dinner dance may call Madeline Fowler at 928-636-4037 for ticket information. The committee also needs raffle prizes and silent auction items. Anyone willing to donate money, merchandise or gift certificates, for instance, may call Pastor Robert Collins, committee chair, at 778-5787, Crites at 443-5323, or Fowler at 636-4037.
"We are remembering all who lost their lives in the tragic events of 9-11-01," said Crites, adding that the ceremony will not be a religious event.
The two-hour program will feature flag ceremonies, patriotic songs and buglers, along with representation of government officials.
