One of 5 caught in Cottonwood drug bust gets prison time
PRESCOTT - One of five people arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana in June pleaded guilty in court Monday morning and will be spending time in the state prison.
Brandon Wyrick, 22, was one of four young men and a teenaged girl arrested in Cottonwood after Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant on a home in the 3500 block of Mohave Lane after they were tipped off that marijuana was being sold there.
They recovered a half-pound of pot along with scales, production containers, and assorted paraphernalia.
Wyrick pleaded guilty to a single count of distribution of a controlled substance, a felony.
Judge Tina R. Ainley sentenced him to two-and-a-quarter years in prison, with credit for 181 days served in the Yavapai County jail, and fined him $280.
He chose not to speak when given the chance to talk to the judge prior to sentencing.
Ainley said she took into account his age and record when sentencing Wyrick and said, "I know you are trying to get back with your family" and suggested that it was not too late to turn his life around.
The other four defendants' cases are not on the docket at this point.
