Saturday might be the public's only chance to hear 1st Congressional District candidates Ann Kirkpatrick and Paul Gosar on the same stage during the general election period.
Both have agreed to attend a Yavapai Tea Party candidate forum at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Yavapai College Performance Hall, 1100 E. Sheldon St. in Prescott.
A day after Gosar won the 1st Congressional District (CD1) Republican nomination in the Aug. 24 primary election, incumbent Democrat Kirkpatrick challenged him to five debates. At this time, however, they have not agreed to any dates. Gosar said he's open to the idea, but Kirkpatrick said he hasn't been willing to discuss dates.
The tea party event starts at 4:30 p.m. with a free ice cream social, when citizens can talk directly with the candidates.
Then at 5:30 the tea party will pose questions to the candidates.
The Yavapai Tea Party invited federal and state candidates from all parties, YTP President Mona Patton said.
Other candidates who have agreed to attend include Ian Gilyeat, Independent for U.S. Senate; Bob Donahue, Democrat for Arizona Senate; and Arizona Rep. Andy Tobin and Karen Fann, Republicans seeking the two Arizona House of Representatives seats.
The forum moderators will be Yavapai Tea Party Vice President Jennifer Campbell and local author Charly Gullett.
Dwayne LaSassier will sing the National Anthem and God Bless the USA.
