Letter: Vet staff eased painful time with compassion

EDITOR:

We would like to publicly thank Dr. Ken Skinner, Dr. Cameron Dow and the wonderful staff at Prescott Animal Hospital.

This past week we had to make the unexpected and indescribably painful decision of putting to sleep our sweet "little girl" dachshund, Tyler. Though this process happens daily for the PAH staff, they remained supportive, understanding and patient.

From the midnight call with Dr. Dow to the timely and detailed updates from Dr. Skinner regarding Tyler's unfortunate health deterioration, to the time we made the decision and arriving at PAH, the office staff was so supportive and caring, breaking from their obviously busy day to offer condolences and whisk us to the back, bypassing having to sit in the lobby (which I could not have done), to a warm and comfortable home-like room to be with Tyler.

They gave us all the time we needed with her to say our good-byes, allowed us to be there with her at the end of her life, and let us sit afterward to collect ourselves. We even received a plant and card from Dr. Skinner and PAH staff.

You were all marvelous and made such a heart-breaking experience a little less painful.

Thank you, Prescott Animal Hospital staff - you are all truly dedicated to your calling!

Some people say pets are "just animals" but they are so much more - they are family members. Some, like our beloved Tyler, are human-like. Prescott Animal Hospital understands that, recognizes it and completely supports it.
