Joseph B. Quinlan Jr.

April 10, 1919 - October 22, 2010

Joseph, beloved husband of Ruth V. Beck Quinlan, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 10, 1919, and passed away on Oct. 22, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. Joe and his wife, Ruth, were married on Nov. 28, 1942, at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi.

A loving husband and father, Joe is survived by Ruth; his five daughters, Jody (Len) Abrahamson, Pat (Tom) Gentner, Ginny (Carl) Paternite, Peggy (Robin) Boyd and Terry (Rich) Thickens; and his three sons, Steve (Melanie) Quinlan, Frank (Linda) Quinlan and Rob (Marsha) Quinlan. Joe is also survived by his 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Joe served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in Burma as a pilot who "flew the hump." He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Chinese Medal. He attended the Art Students' League in New York City. Painting was his lifelong passion.

Joe retired from the Hartford Insurance Company in 1980 after 25 years of service. After retirement, Joe and Ruth enjoyed extensive travels, highlighted by a visit to his ancestral home, Ireland.

A private family memorial service in Joe's honor will be on Oct. 29, 2010, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. Joe is remembered by his family for his wit and sense of humor. Igdobble!
