The recent article about the Virtual Room in the Prescott Valley Library missed a few important points. This room is a collaborative effort between the Town, North Central University and the Prescott Valley Public Library Foundation.
NCU was approached years ago and asked to assist with the costs of the Virtual Room. Former NCU President Donald Hecht graciously agreed to contribute starting funds to the Town for the Virtual Room. This generosity was followed up by the PV Library Foundation by working with current NCU President Clinton Gardner and NCU Board of Trustees to obtain a four-year financing commitment from North Central University. Projected funding could be over $200,000 and NCU deserves recognition for this commitment to learning in the region.
Further, the PV Library Foundation began meetings with Humboldt Unified School District nearly two years ago to discuss what is now becoming a reality - Virtual learning in our schools. Foundation Board members wish to thank former HUSD Superintendent Henry Schmitt for advancing this concept early on.
The Prescott Public Library is an invaluable resource to the community as evidenced by the landslide increase in usage since its grand opening nearly one year ago. We have been extremely fortunate to have the generosity of North Central University and the cooperation of the Humboldt Unified School District.
It is also important to note that our library is a partnership between the Town, the community, North Central University, Northern AZ University, Yavapai College and Humboldt Unified School District. We are indeed fortunate to have this extraordinary asset available for all to use.
