Obituary: Jane Chivvis Moore

Jane Chivvis Moore, 94, died Oct. 13, 2010, at Marley House in Prescott, Ariz. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 7, 1916, to Anne Cushing and Norman Chivvis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grant Moore, who died in 2000. They were married in 1939 in St. Louis.

She is survived by her four children, William Grant Moore, Anne Chivvis Moore, Brian Norman Moore and John Kevin Moore; and grandchildren Monique Moore, Will Moore and Kevin Moore.

Mrs. Moore graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Manhattanville College in 1966 after her children were grown. She taught at Scarsdale Junior High School in Scarsdale, N.Y., from 1966 to 1982.

The Moore family lived in St. Louis, Mo.; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; São Paulo, Brazil; Birmingham, Mich.; Rye, N.Y.; and White Plains, N.Y., before retiring to Prescott in 1982.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she served twice on the vestry.

A celebration of Jane's life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2010, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Her family suggests donations be made to Caring Through Sharing at St. Luke's, 2000 Shepherd's Lane, Prescott, AZ 86301.
