Obituary: Roy Welch
Roy Welch passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Las Fuentes in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Jan. 12, 1916, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of John and Maggie Welch. Roy was 94 years old. He was preceded in death by his daughters Barbara Ann Welch and Dorothy Lee Rogers.
Roy traveled to Prescott as a teenager where he met his wife Alice on a cold winter night in front of the Elks Theater. During World War II, he worked in Morenci extracting copper for munitions used in the war. He became a union carpenter and built many houses in Prescott. They belonged to the Mile High Square Dance club and for many years the danced at the old fairgrounds and at the courthouse plaza. He loved hunting and fishing with friends and family.
Roy is survived by his wife of 76 years, Alice Welch; their daughter, Paula Wesson (Paul) of Chino Valley, Ariz.; granddaughters Cindy Simpson (Steve) of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Tracy McManus of Prescott Valley; Tom Reardon (Dana) of Tucson, Ariz.; Don Rick Rogers (Shonda) of Golden Valley, Ariz.; Colleen Towry (James) of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Diane Rogers of New Port, Wash.; 21 great-grandkids and eight great-great-grandkids.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2010, at the Chino Valley Cemetery. The family will have a gathering reception after the service at Paula's house.
