Letter: Veterans group seeks help with Troop boxes

Editor:

An Open Invitation -

A big thank-you to everyone who attended the Veterans Day Assembly at Del Rio Elementary School last Wednesday. The school has quite a tradition of honoring our veterans and assisting those now serving. The staff and students are to be commended on their fine work.

It was also quite a tribute to the community, seeing how many who were there have served our country. I would like to ask each of those veterans to "pay it forward" by joining and working in a veterans service organization, such as the American Legion.

I have been working with Del Rio on their Tots-4-Tots program for four years. During the same period I have been working a care package program to send needed items to our deployed troops. As of today, we are at 800 pounds shipped for Christmas this year, and then comes the Tots-4-Tots boxes.

Aiding our veterans here and our Troops deployed does not simply occur. It takes people who are committed to making things happen, then making it happen. Join us in making a difference.

We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 7 p.m.at the legion hall, corner of Highway 89 and Road 3 South. Come, get to know us and find out what we stand for. I would especially invite the female veterans to join and represent their sisters now serving. Call the legion at 636-2020 for info.
