Obituary: Jeffrey Ballard

Jeffrey Lynn (Jeff) Ballard, 53, of Gainesville, Mo., passed away suddenly on Oct. 30, 2010. Jeff was born on Dec. 7, 1956, in Lima, Ohio, to Donald L. and Betty Jane (Knecht) Ballard. After graduating from high school in Ada, Ohio, he traveled the country looking for his place to settle, finally choosing Phoenix, Ariz.

Jeff started his independent insurance agency while living in Phoenix. When Josh and Justin started school, he found a perfect little town "up north" to raise them, moved the family to Prescott Valley, Ariz., into a home he designed. Jeff relocated the agency to Prescott Valley as the business and community involvement grew.

After the boys grew up and with some health issues, Jeff chose to sell the J.L. Ballard Insurance Agency to Mahoney Insurance Agency of Tucson, Ariz. He then followed his longtime dream of retiring and moved to southern Missouri, Ozark County, three and a half years ago.

Jeff loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and "tinkerer." His garden was the best and he had a stack of firewood that was the envy of all who saw it. Jeff loved the Ozarks and the home he bought on Bryant Creek. Life was good. He made many friends in his short time there and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jeff is survived by sons, Joshua (Jamie and grandson Rogan) and Justin (Elana and grandson Eden); Ella Ballard (mother of sons); all of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; father Donald L. Ballard of Lima, Ohio; mother Betty Jane Ballard of Dewey, Ariz.; two brothers, Gregg (Marlene) Ballard of Nixa, Mo., and Lee (Deb) Ballard of Lake City, Mich.; and many special friends and relatives across the country.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, in the Social Hall at the Villages at Lynx Creek, 12200 E. Highway 69, Dewey, Ariz. Friends are invited to share their stories and celebrate Jeff's life.

Cremation services are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, Mo.
