Astronomy Club wraps up 2010 events with talk on Mars Rover, Starry Nights at Watson Lake
The Prescott Astronomy Club is wrapping up its free 2010 Starry Nights and Third Thursday presentations this month.
The last "Third Thursday" presentation with the Prescott Public Library is at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the library's Founders Suite.
The speaker is Ken Herkenhoff, planetary scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey Astrogeology Science Center. His topic is "Spirit and Opportunity: The Mars Exploration Rover Missions." He'll provide the audience with 3-D glasses to explore what we have learned from the Mars rovers.
The last Starry Nights at Watson Lake will take place at 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Jupiter and its moons will be prominent in the southeastern sky and a variety of other objects, including Earth's Moon, will be visible if the weather cooperates.
The club will provide telescopes for the public sky viewing at the lake's ramada, located just east of the Highway 89 roundabout in Prescott.
